Simultaneous measurement of total and nutritional coronary blood flow in dogs.

چکیده
Significant correlation has been shown between the severity of coronary disease and level of coronary blood flow as measured by the rubidium coincidence technique. Contrary to the commonly expressed view, however, the rubidium coincidence method does not evaluate nutritional flow, but estimates total coronary blood flow (CBFT). An equation is derived that does evaluate nutritional flow (CBFN), allowing simultaneous measurement of total and nutritional flow. The extraction ratio of the total body (ERTB) relative to the extraction ratio of the heart (ERr) was measured in a total of 21 dogs by employing the relative uptake of labeled microspheres and diffusible ions, 86Rb and 131Cs. CBFT, measured with a bolus injection of 86Rb or .31Cs, was compared with total flow measured by the microsphere technique in dogs, with and without drug administration (norepinephrine, isoproterenol, nitroglycerin). These studies showed that while rubidium gives accurate mean values of total flow (4% mean difference, r 0.92) individual estimates may be in error by

In vivo characterization of synthetic thromboxane A2 in canine myocardium.
Recently, total chemical synthesis of thromboxane was achieved. The in vitro activity of synthetic thromboxane A2 is indistinguishable from biologically generated material. The present study describes the in vivo characterization of synthetic thromboxane A2 on the regional blood flow distribution of the canine heart. Local injections of synthetic thromboxane A2 into the coronary vasculature cau...
متن کاملEvaluation of nonradioactive, colored microspheres for measurement of regional myocardial blood flow in dogs.
Measurement of regional myocardial blood flow (RMBF) is crucial in experimental studies of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion in dogs. The standard measurement technique uses radioactive microspheres; however, not all institutions are able to dispose of radioactive waste and therefore cannot make use of this method. We tested a new, nonradioactive microsphere, labeled with colors instead of nu...
متن کاملEvaluation of diastolic blood flow dynamic of the left ventricle in dogs with mitral valve regurgitation using vector flow mapping
Mitral valve regurgitation (MVR) is a common valvular disease in dogs. Hydrokinetic evaluation of the blood flow within the ventricles has become possible by vector flow mapping (VFM), which shows the blood flow within the ventricles in vector and vortex flows. Blood flow within the left ventricle of MVR dogs was compared at different stages of MVR and to that of normal dogs. 14 normal dogs and...
متن کاملRenin-angiotensin system inhibition in acute myocardial infarction in dogs. Effects on systemic hemodynamics, myocardial blood flow, segmental myocardial function and infarct size.
Acute left anterior descending coronary artery occlusion was produced in 21 conscious, chronically instrumented dogs. Forty minutes after coronary occlusion, nine dogs were given i.v. teprotide, 25 micrograms/kg/min, followed by oral doses of captopril, 10 mg/kg every 8 hours for 24 hours. The remaining 12 dogs served as saline-infused controls. In all dogs, acute coronary occlusion increased p...
متن کاملMeasurement of myocardial blood flow by ultrafast computed tomography.
Myocardial blood flow was analyzed by radioisotope-labeled microspheres and ultrafast computed tomography (CT) in 16 closed-chest, anesthetized dogs. The first set of 10 dogs had CT and microsphere measurements before and after chromonar-induced increases in myocardial blood flow. A second set of six dogs had flows measured at control and during temporary reductions in regional flow produced by...
